Geek Squad Remote Support Showdown

Laptop Magazine reviewed three remote support options in a tech support showdown between Geek Squad Remote Support, iYogi and Support.com.

SPOILER ALERT – Geek Squad Remote Support came out on top:

Based on our experience, we strongly recommend Geek Squad’s tech support services. The agents were courteous, friendly, and efficient, and we were not charged for our two troubleshooting issues.

ABC World News took a look at the “Twitter Christmas” in this report about how retail companies are using social media resources like Twitter and Facebook to reach out to the public.

I had a chance to speak about our own @Twelpforce in the report, as I answered incoming tweets while on-camera.

How About a Little Twelp From Your Friends?

Phil Wilson has a nice piece on the Minnov8.com website in which he asks about the success of Best Buy’s Twitter-based @Twelpforce.

As a member of Twelpforce, my favorite line comes from our own Twelpforce lead, John Bernier, who explains that, “We’ve been able to meet our customers at the crossroads of need and time…Being there when and where they need us.”

That is, I think, really the best way to measure our progress on the project.

Job Hunters: Clean Up Your Online Profiles!

I had an opportunity to speak to Fox 8 News in Cleveland awhile back about how job hunters can clean up their online profiles via social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook or Twitter. Here’s the video …

My advice:

  • Privatize Your Profile – Set your Facebook profile to private and enable “Protect my updates” in Twitter. This requires potential recruiters to get your approval before they can access your updates.
  • Check Your Content – Take a look at the photos, text and comments on your page through the eyes of a potential employer. Remove any negative references to past employers and/or frustrations with work. Don’t forget that poor grammar and high amounts of slang can also work against you.
  • Google Yourself – Once you’ve cleaned up your online presence, run searches on your name on Google, Yahoo and Bing in order to check for any remaining negative content that may still be seen by potential employers.
