Should Apple Continue to Advertise Apps?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

There seems to be some debate going on over Apple’s iPhone more recent commercials. Some critics, such as Macworld’s David Chartier believe that Apple should go back to advertising the core iPhone features, while Dan Moren believes that apps are what generate the most iPhone buzz.

Personally, I agree with Dan Moren. While the iPhone is a great piece of hardware with a slick interface, I’ve found that the user experience is most served with the rich supply of apps available. The tag line of “There’s an app for that” is simple, but also effective because it’s true.

Sure, the competition are putting in place their own app stores, but I think that the rich world of iPhone apps will always be the biggest draw to the platform for consumers.

Pepsi Throwback

According to BevReview.com, Pepsi is looking to cash in on consumer nostalgia for the days when soda was sweetened with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. The company is releasing an limited production run of “retro” Pepsi and Mountain Dew soda, sweetened with natural sugar as they were in the 60s and 70s. “Pepsi Throwback” and “Mountain Dew Throwback” should be available starting April 20th, and be available for around 8 weeks.

Hopefully, the retro soda will be popular enough to bring back a more permanent supply.

Modelling the Saturn V

Monday, April 20th, 2009

RocketryPlanet.com has a great story of one Ohio man’s attempt to recreate a Saturn V launch using a really, really large model rocket:

On April 25, 2009, history will be made. At Higgs Farm in Price, Maryland, Steve Eves will enter the history books as the person who flew the largest model rocket in history. The rocket will weigh over 1,600 pounds, it will stand over 36 feet tall and it will be powered by a massive array of nine motors: eight 13,000ns N-Class motors and a 77,000ns P-Class motor. The estimated altitude of this single stage effort will be between 3,000 and 4,000 feet and the project will be recovered at apogee.
