Relive that 70’s childhood …

I just noticed that TVLand has started showing a few Sid and Marty Kroft series early in the mornings. H.R. Pufnstuf, Lidsville, Sigmund & the Sea Monsters and Electra Woman & Dyna Girl.

Wow, between this and the Muppet Show DVDs courtesy of Netflix, I’m awash in the 70s children’s cheesey television of my youth.

Microsoft Windows news . . .

According to Ars Technica, it looks like the next major iteration of Microsoft Windows, codenamed Longhorn and due in 2006, won’t have that spiffy database-driven file system (WinFS) that has been much hyped. Instead, word is that it will be scaled back from a full file system within a database that would allow you to do all the fun manipulations you could on such to just a mere indexing agent with some metadata improvements. That means that most of us will probably end up turning that feature off, as it will no doubt use up resources like WinXP’s indexing agent does with little gain. Additionally, WinFS will only support the files on your computer, and will provide none of it’s advantages to networked resources like originally planned.

Additionally, it appears that there will be at least one new version of MS Windows to be released between now and 2006, but it won’t be the rumored “Windows XP Reloaded”. It’s called Windows XP Premium and will not be available anywhere except as installed on a new store-bought computer, much like Windows XP Media Center Edition.

Spider-Man 2 trailer

Brand new Spider-Man 2 trailer is available here for streaming or downloading.

The CGI costume looks a little bright and cartoony, giving it an obviously pasted on to the scene effect, but I still very much enjoyed the trailer and will be there on day one of the release. I’m sure work is continueing on improving the CGI even now.

More walks …

Long walks are good for the soul, or at least I’ve found.

The most at peace I have ever been was during Basic Training and the long road marches with fifty pounds of equipment on my back, a heavy kevlar helmet on my head, the hot sun and hard earth below and an M16A2 in my hands.

Walking 10km in the South Carolina countryside gives you plenty of time to just think.

I need to get out and go for more long walks, even if it’s only with my mp3 player in my hands.
