For users of the popular mp3 player Winamp, there’s currently a malicious exploit circulating through the ‘net that makes use of the software’s feature that automatically installs downloaded skins.

Details about the exploit can be found on the Winamp community forums.

Gamespot has an article up now listing games known to have problems with Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, mostly due to security upgrades to the networking components.

If you’ve been having trouble with some of your games since installing this latest operating system update, you might want to check against the list to pinpoint where the problem might be.

Microsoft also has a list they’ve compiled of applications they know to have problems with the update, along with some possible fixes.

This particular virus is a “Bagle” variant, and is described in this eWeek.com article.

The attachments come in the form of .zip files that can be executed simply by opening them up in the default .zip viewer that comes with Windows XP.
